Council of Justices of the Peace of Sri Lanka
The CJPSL is the premier national body representing Justices of the Peace throughout Sri Lanka. Founded to strengthen the role of JPs in public life, the Council operates under the legal framework of Sri Lankan law and upholds international standards of justice and public service.
Our members serve all 25 districts, providing essential legal witnessing services, community mediation, and legal awareness programs to citizens at no cost.
What is a Justice of the Peace?
A Justice of the Peace (JP) is a public officer appointed by the President of Sri Lanka under the Justices of the Peace Ordinance.
JPs are authorised to witness and certify legal documents, affidavits, statutory declarations, and certified copies.
They administer oaths and affirmations in legal, governmental, and commercial contexts throughout Sri Lanka.
JPs serve as neutral, trusted community officials — bridging citizens and the justice system at no charge to the public.
The CJPSL provides training, certification renewal, and professional development for all registered JPs.
Appointment as a JP is a mark of public trust and professional distinction — recognised nationally and internationally.
