It gives me great pleasure to send a few thoughts on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the Association of the Justices of Peace.
Since 1993 the Association has worked to maintain and promote justice, harmony and peace for all Sri Lankans.
It is pivotal for any democracy that non-partisan organisations such as the Association of the Justices for peace act as torch bearers for justice. The Government’s vision for Good Governance is built on the foundation of democracy. In order to achieve our common goals, it is imperative that all parties work together with an understanding of their duties and responsibilities vis-a-vis promoting and protecting democracy.
It is heartening that entities such as Justices for Peace take heed to their civic duty and stay committed to the ideals upon which this State was built. As the apex body for Justices in Sri Lanka, the association has continued to strengthen and protect the democracy of the State. The work done by these individuals is truly a great service to the country.
Thus I take this opportunity to commend Association of the Justices of Peace for being at the vanguard of democracy and wish all its members the very best in their future endeavours!
